Head to the southernmost point in the continental US and you will discover that island life abounds on the Floridian island of Key West. Life seems to slow down a bit here, and so will you as you get immersed in the many great things to see and the locals laid back attitude. Key West is known for having an abundance of bars to sit back and refresh yourself at, but there is far more than that to do on this pastel hued island. Pristine Agency invites you to come with us as we review 3 attractions/destinations you won’t want to miss on your trip to Key West.
Who doesn’t love a good treasure? Visit the Key West Shipwreck Treasure Museum to see how Key West was once one of the richest cities in the US from maritime trade. There are plenty of interactive exhibits to take part in. You can also get a bird’s eye view of the island from the Shipwreck Museum lookout tower. It stands 65 feet above the island, affording stunning views of the surrounding waters, and perhaps you will spot a ship wreck from here.
Key West is known for its diversity when it comes to its residents as well. There are plenty of subcultures and one of the best way to describe some of it’s inhabitants would be extraordinary. Who doesn’t love people watching? One of the best places to do this is at Mallory Square. This also happens to be one of the best places to watch the setting sun. Mallory Square becomes a virtual street party as the light of the day starts to wane with her brilliant hues. Your eyes will be torn from the display of the sky and the fire swallowers to the acrobats tumbling through the air. The square is kid-friendly and a great place to grab a beer or a light snack.
You can’t make the jaunt to Key West without at least stopping in at its most famous drinking establishment. Sloppy Joe’s has been a mainstay on the island since 1933. The kitchen opens at 9am. Live music starts around noon, sometimes a bit earlier and will continue to the early hours of the morning. Make sure to stop in at their retail shop to pick up a cool shirt or hat as a souvenir.
Key West might be known for a great place to go and party the day and night away, but there is far more to do on this island. Of course, if that’s what you want to do, you’re never more than a few steps from a place to imbibe. Just make sure you get out and enjoy the island too.
