It goes without saying that if you are heading to Hawaii that you are looking to spend a lot of quality time on the beach. How could you possibly not? While the majority of visitors to the Hawaiian Islands spend most of their time on the main island of Hawaii and also Oahu, each island offers its own unique appeal including Kauai. The island of Kauai gets the most rain out of all the Hawaiian Islands, but that means that it is the lushest and verdant of all of them offering visitors a great blend of tropical forests, beaches and more. It is this diversity and the relative peace of the island which make it an ideal destination for any traveler and its beaches offer views and experiences you won’t want to miss. As an island, there are plenty of beaches to choose from so, where do you begin? Pristine Agency reviews 3 of the most secluded and beautiful beaches this island paradise has to offer.
Donkey Beach is located on the east side of the island. It is named for the donkeys that are used at the nearby plantations and is located at the end of a dirt walking path, at mile marker 11 on Kuhio Highway. Just park and follow the trail down for the perfect spot for a picnic or sunbathing. The beach has palm trees at both ends with soft, warm sand on one side and the other lava rocks worn smooth by the waves. The surf here is pretty rough and unpredictable making it not ideal for swimming, but lazing away the day and enjoying the view.
For the ultimate of secluded beaches you’ll need a boat to access it. Kipu Kai Beach is located at the foot of the mountains on the southeast side of the island on an isolated shoreline. The road that leads to the beach is private, hence the need to be boated in. The beach is crescent shaped and has cliffs on three sides. The views and the seclusion make this beach the perfect place for swimming ,snorkeling or just relaxing.
What better name for a secluded beach than Secret Beach? This is the nickname of Kauapea Beach. For this secret you have to work a bit for it, as to access it you will need to take a strenuous, steep 10 minute hike. For most, the work is well worth it, as it offers a pristine golden sand beach and is often a place to catch glimpses of dolphins frolicking in the ocean. What truly sets this beach apart from others is the beautiful little waterfall on the hillside at the back of the beach. This secret beach is located off of Kauapea Beach Rd.
A trip to any of these beaches will take your Hawaiian adventure to whole new level. You will feel like you have truly found your own personal nirvana as you bask in the sun’s rays on what feels like your own private beach.
